About Palo Duro
Palo Duro Hardwoods was started from the ground up in 1985. Its’ inspiration sprang from 10 years of experience in selling hardwood flooring on a National basis while representing what was at the time the largest manufacturer of hardwood flooring in North America. Proven education & marketing programs, time tested product lines, along with a heightened awareness of the hardwood flooring options availalbe to consumers came together to provide the most comprehensive group of hardwood flooring products in the Rocky Mountain Region. Every product line has a unique story to it, and a reason why it is here. We would suggest our floors are more than just floor coverings, but rather a functional, design oriented statement of an interior theme.
Palo Duro Hardwoods is named after the Palo Duro Canyon in the Northern region of West Texas. Sometimes called the “Second Grand Canyon,” the Palo Duro Canyon (meaning white and hard) was named so as it was a reference to the white oak trees that naturally grew along its’ creek bottoms. Indians and early settlers of the area went there to harvest hardwood for weapons, wagon parts and structural members for homes and farm buildings. The Palo Duro Canyon was the only place within hundreds of miles where hardwood trees grew indigenously, and so it became the best source for hardwoods in the region. We like to think our business carries on that same connotation.
